A new season calls for new looks! But seems impossible? Don't have enough funds to keep adding more to your wardrobe? And yet want to be trendy and stylish? Here is my take on how I contemplated ways to upcycle my wardrobe without breaking the bank.
It's time to reflect your personality through your creativity. Incorporate unique styles and ideas to transform old, out-of-fashion garments. And for that, I needed a few tools like:
Scissors
Measuring tape
Sewing kit
Paints, Sprays and dyes
Fabric patches
Frills, Laces stone or any other embellishment.
To make it easier, I started sorting out my closet and planned on how to revive my clothes. Be as creative as you want! Firstly, I separated all cotton t-shirts and started going through DIY techniques with the help of a tie and dye kit. And then the magic began!
I have always loved to paint or draw exciting designs on my dull garments which gives them a crisp new appearance. Also spraying or quoting anything chic that will enhance my old look. Selecting colours to upgrade depends on my mood, trend or weather.
Cold weather calls for vibrant and bright colours while light and floral colours are summer favorites. So, I always add colours accordingly. Embellishing my old and vintage clothes by adding stones, laces and frills to keep up with the latest mood is my favourite thing to do.
Trying a new fashion statement and slashing out my straight denim jeans or shirts, gives a trendy ripped cool look. Or cropping my old non-wearable jeans and turning them into shorts to give a bohemian look.
Skirts are every girl's favourite. I always take my old dresses and stitch them into new short or long skirts. Or sometimes, the other way around. I stitch a fabric into a blouse and then attach it to a long skirt if I have any. Tada, A new maxi dress!
Embroidery and making patterns revamp the whole closet itself. Learning a few easy techniques using a sewing kit helped me in making various beautiful motifs and decorations, to match my vibe!
Have sentimental values with your clothes? Got a solution for that too! Cut out patches from different clothes, sew them together to make anything out of it and keep it close to your heart. Be it a blanket, pillow or even a jacket.
Apart from restyling clothes, I always try my creativity to give a new and distinct look to other household essentials. Once, I recreated an old frame using cutouts from my clothes. For example, flowers or laces and add them to my old photo frame.
Breathing new life into garments is easy but requires thinking out of the box. Being innovative is the key. Everyone needs a change to keep up with contemporary styles. Old is boring!
In my opinion, It's an easy and wallet-friendly method to spruce up your closet. Fashion lovers don't have to worry about buying new clothes all the time.
So get ready and gear up to amaze everyone with your creativity by giving some major goals. Be an example to reduce textile waste and help the environment.
