DIY Natural Beauty Recipes for Eco-Friendly Teens

Whoever defamed DIY Skincare, we need to talk.

I remember how it became a movement to disregard all DIY natural beauty recipes a few years ago. I mean, most of them deserved to be busted (hey there, lemon and baking soda!), but it was unfair for many DIY skincare formulas to be discredited.

Anyhoo, now that we’re done with the overconsumption of beauty products, I’m glad the youth is drifting back towards the idea of eco-friendly and natural skincare routines. Let’s get you started with the best-kept natural beauty secrets, shall we?!

DIY Natural Cleanser

Oil cleansing is all the rage right now, and for all the right reasons! Did you know that you can make one at home? Here’s how:

1. Pick your core oil, for example, olive oil, almond oil, jojoba oil, or grapeseed oil.

2. Choose a treatment oil according to your skin type. For example, castor oil is preferred for oily/acne-prone skin, and rosehip oil for dry skin.

3. Combine the two oils in a 3:1 ratio. Mix well with three parts of the core oil and one part of the treatment oil.

Ta-da! Your 1st step towards a natural skincare routine is ready! Massage this oil for two minutes every night to remove the day’s makeup and sunscreen off your face. Wash with a warm washcloth, or use the next DIY skincare recipe to double cleanse.

Acne-prone girls need not be afraid because this is an entirely safe DIY skincare product for acne. But always patch-test before committing to THE ONE natural beauty recipe for your skin type.

DIY Face Mask for All Skin Types

This ancient natural beauty recipe is famous amongst South Asian women, and the world is just discovering it now. Better late than never, no? This DIY face mask contains some of the best natural beauty ingredients, like yoghurt, a natural exfoliant, and turmeric, a natural antioxidant.

To make this skin-reviving face mask, you'll need the following:

  • 1 tablespoon gram flour
  • 1 tablespoon yoghurt
  • A hefty pinch of turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon honey (optional)

Mix all the ingredients until it forms a smooth paste. Generously coat your face and neck with this mixture and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Rinse off once dry.

This mask can be used daily or thrice a week as part of your natural skincare routine. The glow and brightness it gives is *chef's kiss*, tried and tested!

DIY Toner for Glowing Skin

Some beauty enthusiasts think that toner is an unnecessary skincare step. I believe they are game-changers in an all-natural skincare routine!

Especially for students and teenagers, a cool spritz of toner can be a great pick-me-up in the middle of the day. Here’s a simple and effective toner recipe for your DIY skincare routine.

You’ll need:

  • ½  cup Rose water
  • 2 tablespoon Glycerin
  • 2 tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar

Combine all the ingredients in a spray bottle and shake well. Store in a refrigerator and apply twice or thrice a day on a clean face. Use within 10-15 days.

This natural beauty recipe is suitable for all skin types. The glycerin will help keep the skin moisturised and plump, while the apple cider vinegar will kill acne and lighten its marks.

The Best DIY Lip balm

Fun Fact: I made and sold DIY lip balms from 9th to 11th grade. They were a HIT amongst friends and family!

You can trust me with this recipe now that you know my background. It’s the best natural lip balm for dry and wounded lips! Here’s a breakdown:

  • Shea butter
  • Beeswax
  • Olive oil/ almond oil/ coconut oil
  • Castor oil (optional)
  • Scented oil (optional)

DIY Lipbalm Method:

1. Measure and set aside the shea butter, beeswax, and oils in a 1:1:1 ratio.

2. Melt the shea butter and wax first using the double-boiling method.

3. Once they are melted, remove the heat, add 1 part oil or combination of oils, and mix well.

4. Stir in a few drops of castor oil and scented oil. Pour in tubes or pots, and let the lip balm cool.

Do not sleep on this DIY! Why? Because the natural beauty ingredients in this recipe are star performers of every commercial lip balm.
