Dil Dharakne Do Review
In this movie, a story of every single Indian family is sketched. From the role of society to the core of family relationships. One cannot argue that the movie is solely about the issues of the wealthy. It also depicts the norms and beliefs of the constrained society, which still hasn't found a way to settle down between Desi and the modern affluent. Let's talk about Dil Dharakne Do review points in detail:
1. Societal Pressure
DDD starts from the very point "log kya kahengy" when the father Kamal Mehra learns about the cruise card and that all the preparations were done by his daughter, not his son. Even her name was not disclosed on the card. He quickly disregards his daughter's efforts and concentrates on food. Moreover, he compels his son to wed a girl from a wealthy family to keep their business afloat and says "Plain chahye k nahi". As he knows the interest of his son in the planes, he blackmails him just because of societal pressure.
2. Patriarchy System
As mentioned above, the movie begins when Kamal makes his wife realize that she is nothing without him, as he developed the entire company himself without acknowledging that his wife had always been there for him.
Furthermore, they pressure their daughter to wed a wealthy man who would provide for her in every way.
On the other hand, mother Neelam forces his son to join his father's business by saying "Agar tmari jaga kahi or hoti to tum yahan paida kyu hoty!” Although she is fully aware of her daughter's skills in business, she still pressures his son simply because he is a 'Son'.
3. Women's Social Life
With great attention to detail, author Zoya Akhtar drew attention to the fact that married women in India have no social life. So, they simply poke their noses around into everything. She is telling them to avoid "gossiping". Just be mindful of your children's sentiments, communicate with them, and don't abandon them feeling numb.
4. Dysfunctional Family
A family shatters down when there is no one left to discuss genuine feelings. This movie picturized it very beautifully that if you do not look after your children's feelings, the family automatically falls apart. Please try to understand your kids. Before it's too late.
5. Married Life: In DDD, married life is so miserable, for both the parents and their daughter. It was so heartbreaking when Ayesha wanted to discuss her married life with her mother and Neelam responded, "career choro ghar pe dehan do". Her mother did not bat an eyelid at her situation. Neelam was also suffering in her married life so she wants her daughter to live the same life as well. Simply because they are women. It is how the writer made us see how women disrespect and degrade other women. She should have listened to or guided her as a mother. Even Ayesha's husband and mother-in-law discourage her from her success.
6. Generation Gap
The film's screenwriter Zoya Akhtar, drew attention to the scene showing how parents forced their preferences on their children. They simply brag about how hard they worked to achieve their goals and how they forced their kids to follow in their footsteps.
They ought to ask them if they wanted to become something, and if so, what exactly. Kamal Mehra never once inquired about his son's preferences. He simply imposed his choice to save his business.
Good Sides of Dil Dharakne Do
1. Brother-Sister Relation: The brother-sister bond is the most lovable and appealing relationship in this movie. The perfect understanding and wholehearted support that Kabir and Ayesha have shown, made the movie worth watching.
2. Cinematography: If you want to enjoy the cinematography of this movie, watch Dil Dharakne Do on Netflix.
3. Pleasing to the Eye: The movie is recorded on a cruise, and the way scenery and bright landscape of South Europe are presented is just like the cherry on the cake. (Just go watch Dil Dharakne Do on Netflix if have not yet)
4. Music: Pehli baar is the only one that is particularly memorable. Others feel right while watching a movie only.
5. Amir Khan's Voice: Amir Khan is presented as Pluto Mehra but behind the camera. The way he presents relations and emotions through the animal's point of view is incredible.
6. The Last Moment: The best part of the movie is that we being family members try to understand each other's emotions and respect each other's decisions.
Bad Side of Dil Dharakne Do
One point that was made abundantly obvious in the film was that if a person's parents are unable to listen to them or in any other manner are not allowing them to fulfill their ambitions, they should simply leave the house. Seriously! Is it our only option left? Anushka Sharma is portrayed in a way that makes you want to flee even if she has little to do with her character. She is portrayed as a young Muslim woman from a conservative family who forbade her to be herself. She fled and gives Ranveer the advice, "Either you sink or you swim."
In the end, Ranveer experiences the same issue and after begging his father for support, fled as well.
Conclusion:
Overall, the film covers all of the issues we encounter in relationships in great detail. Ironically, Zoya Akhtar presented it all via the perspective of an animal that instructs people, 'Love alone is not enough, one has to give a little freedom to the one you love. If someone wants to live differently, let him live. Every heart beats in its way. Let every heartbeat'
