Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama series which made waves in the TV industry throughout the nine years it was on air.
With an IMDb rating of 9.2 and eight thrilling seasons, it attracted a record viewership on HBO and a huge international fanbase. Its multilayered storytelling and addictive plot gave the viewers the urge to anxiously wait for every upcoming episode. While some enjoyed every aspect of the show, others weren't very happy with the excessive use of nudity and violence to enhance the storyline.
The series employs some of the most recognizable faces of the British drama industry. Bigwigs like Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage, Sophie Turner play integral characters in the story. Having almost 800 cast members, spanning through the 8 seasons, we see a lot of international actors in the cast as well.
A Game of Thrones review is not justified until the spectacular storyline is talked about. The show offers a medieval drama treat with dragons, thrones and knights. Although some would find its dark themes and the use of savagery a bit disturbing, there is intricate storytelling which binds you with the series. A war between nine families over a throne and land infused with a vicious enemy set to return, dragons and much more.
The show has stunning cinematography and beautiful visuals. The CGI is brilliantly used and a feast for the eyes. The lighting is just right throughout but disappoints in the last season which seemed too dark for most viewers.
The theme song is harmonious, charming and very catchy. It's called a song of ice and fire and it superbly suits the storyline and the characters. A melodious tune that doesn't get out of your head.
The series was a massive hit and gained fame worldwide. It was reviewed very critically by drama critics and the general audience alike. Being available only to stream on Max, Prime video and Apple TV, streaming Game of Thrones on Netflix is not an option.
It is a smartly written, well acted and mesmerising production. The story is very well connected and has no obvious loose ends. Overall a captivating watch about dragons, knights, thrones and war. A recommended series for your weekend binge.
While the first seven seasons had a spellbinding charm on the viewers, the eighth season failed to live up to the standard. A majority of the viewers were not satisfied with the ending which was the most anticipated. Other than that, most of the audience also found the abundant nudity very revolting. Another negative was violence, which was also used quite intensely.
In the end, in my opinion it's safe to say that this is a production definitely worth watching. Every season makes you crave for the next one and the story keeps you bewitched. Despite the rocky ending, the journey that leads there is exciting and spectacular.
