Do you want to do something different with your hair this time but are confused about what’s going to suit you? Trust me I’ve been there. Let me help you!
Although your hair type, texture, and personal style do matter, your face shape is a key factor in creating the most flattering look for you, as it complements your unique facial features.
So, it all starts by determining your face shape. Shall we?
There are generally 6 face shapes:
You might already think you have a certain shape but it might not be correct. So, I will help you decide what face shape you have. As I go through the face shapes, I want you to tie your hair and grab a mirror.
Face Features: If you have a sharp jawline, a pretty pointed chin, and cheekbones that are very pronounced and angular, you might have a diamond-shaped face.
Did you know Jennifer Lopez and Vanessa Hudgens have diamond face shapes?
Hairstyles: Keeping any length is fine, open or you can tuck your hair behind your ears. A haircut that sits about at the chin is going to be amazing. A straightened or blown-out hair look will soften up the angularity. Long, side-swept bangs highlight your cheekbones. A sleek high ponytail is also a great idea as it is going to complement your cheekbones.
Face Features: Somebody with a round face has everything very smoothed out and circular. There are no protruding cheekbones or jaw lines; everything is very circular and round hence why it's called round. Like Miranda Kerr and Selena Gomez.
Hairstyles: You can go with longer haircuts with wispy layering. Waving or curling your hair is a good idea.
Avoid: Stay away from blown-out hair.
Face Features: It's more of a figurative meaning. But you get the idea of it. The jaw is very pronounced and squared off, and the forehead is very angular like Angelina Jolie and Hailey Baldwin.
Hairstyles: A rounded-out bang and add a little bit of length with some layering to subtle the squareness. Loose waves will also look great.
Face Features: Similar to the previous ones, this is a mix between an oval and a square. The height is usually 2 times the length of the forehead. The jawline is slightly narrower than the hairline, which is gently rounded. Just like Beyonce, Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, and Bella Hadid.
Hairstyles: Anything would work on an oval face! It's the most optimal face shape for females according to society and studies. A blunt haircut or short hair till the chin for an edgy look. Long hair or play around with bangs. The facial structure can really handle any kind of look so why not have fun with it?
Avoid: Don’t get a layered haircut.
Face Features: The length of the face is longer than the width of the face. Every feature is very soft. Think of Sarah Jessica and Hilary Swank.
Hairstyles: Shorter haircuts, curls, and blowouts look wonderful. Bangs are also a great way to shorten an oblong face.
Face Features: So, on a heart-shaped face, the forehead is wider than the jaw. The jaw comes to a slight point and widened cheekbones. Scarlett Johansson has a heart-shaped face.
Hairstyles: In a heart-shaped face, decreasing the width of the forehead and adding more width to the jaw is the main goal. A shorter haircut, a blowout to round it out, and a side-swept bang will be best. Nice beach waves going forward or tucking your hair behind your ears to show off that jawline.
I hope you have figured out what you should do with your hair by now. But don't feel restricted by your face shape. The most important thing is to feel confident and comfortable in your chosen hairstyle. Create your own style. Be whoever you want and do whatever you want. This is just for those who were kind of lost with what to do with their hair like I was.
