Our skin needs the best care since it’s the barrier between the environment and our inner body. Healthy skin also boosts your confidence, which improves your overall performance in all areas of your life. All skin types need more or less the same morning and nighttime routines with some changes.
Since winter is around the corner, and the skin gets even drier in this weather, people with dry skin I have got you covered. Let's talk about the best skincare routine for your skin type.
ü Drink Enough Water:
Before jumping to the skincare routine's steps, remember to drink enough water. I can’t emphasize this more. Hydrate yourself with enough water, not only will it help you with the skin, but will solve a lot of other problems.
ü Steps of Skincare Routine:
So we have five main steps in this skincare routine.
1. Cleanse
2. Apply serum
3. Apply eye cream
4. Moisturize
5. Apply sunscreen
Now, let's take each of them individually and talk about it.
1. Cleansing:
Cleansing is a must at night. You can skip it in the morning if your skin is really dry. Some dermatologists recommend cleansing only once a day for people who have dry skin. You can choose whether to cleanse once or twice depending on how dry your skin is. If you choose to do it once, do it at night. Now while choosing your cleanser make sure it has hyaluronic acid and glycerin which hydrates the skin. Avoid the ones that have salicylic acid and alcohol as these chemicals cause further dryness of the skin.
2. Serum:
Again, look for something that helps hydrate your dry skin. Serums comprising hyaluronic acid and collagen are good for dry skin! These are the natural parts of our tissue and help lock in the moisture to keep the skin hydrated. Serums can be used in both morning and night. If you choose to use it once, do it at night.
3. Eye cream:
After the serum, you need to apply the eye cream around your eye. Look for the same ingredients that are mentioned before to keep the area hydrated. Use it at night so that it stays for longer periods and gives you the best results.
4. Moisturizer:
People with dry skin, please moisturize your skin day and night. For people with dry skin, it is recommended to use different creams for day and night. For the day something light is recommended. But for night you need to moisturize yourself with a heavy moisturizer so that while you sleep it does the work. Again look for the same ingredients that keep the moisture in the skin.
5. Sunscreen:
To cover it all up, end your morning skincare with an SPF 30 or higher sunscreen in the morning. People with dry skin need to avoid powdered sunscreens though, since it can make your skin look even drier.
ü Some other tips
Lastly, here are some tips that will help you take care of your skin better. I hope these tips help you take care of your dry skin better this coming winter!
1. People with really dry skin can use face oils with or without moisturizers to get some extra hydration. Remember, for acne-prone dry skin, it’s not recommended since it can clog the pores.
2. Avoid hot water to wash your face or bath, since it further dries up the skin. Instead, use cold or lukewarm water.
3. Do not wash your face quite often. One time is enough. Two is the maximum.
4. Put on a hydrating face mask once a week.
