EVOLUTION OF ENTERTAINMENT AND FUTURE GENERATION

1. Introduction. Entertainment is any action, activity, or event that charms and prompts an audience's interest. The audience is a vital aspect of entertainment, transforming a private recreation or leisure activity into entertainment. It re-energizes people by taking them away from their demanding life activities and providing them with joy and enjoyable stuff. It can be storytelling, music, drama, movie, dance, table games, etc. It possesses a significant value as it encourages us to work in a routine that is essential to maintain the balance of this world. Relatively minor changes are occurring in the type and field of entertainment over a while. Some entertainments like public punishments and gladiator fights were banned by law and are flavored with civilization by implementing a specific rule, yet, winning is still the prime ambition.

 

2. After the advancement of technology and the availability of entertainment sources in

On every hand, it has become challenging to segregate between work and entertainment, which is showing critical effects on youth.

3. Aim. To analyze the effects of the new era of the entertainment industry on its audience.

5. Effects of Technology on Entertainment. 

Globalization of the entertainment industry took place after the development of communication and information technologies. Applications like YouTube, Facebook, etc., have made sure to take care of your personalized entertainment in addition to 3D & 5D movies. Interactivity is now extending to almost all entertainment objects. Entertainment applications are becoming unnegotiable to avoid as these are extremely mingled with everyday social requirements. 

According to the American research institute “Kaiser Family Foundation,” kids ages 8-18 now spend, on average, a whopping 7.5 hours in front of a screen for entertainment daily. What are they consuming from a screen? What are its effects? Who is monitoring or controlling it? As per a recent study, in an hour of scrolling through these social applications, 8-10 illicit scenes/ pictures will sail through one's eye.

 

6. Definition of the audience has also altered; initially, it was only an active or passive audience, but now the audience has also become a participating entity through this entertainment application. The audience is also becoming beneficiary in terms of fame and money.

7. Analysis. Entertainment applications have created opportunities for employment by allowing the audience to participate either through comments actively, sharing pictures, or making videos. On the other hand, the deficiency of checks and balances has started creating problems for society to keep norms and culture in place, here the effects of one of the commonly reachable entertainment will be analyzed:-

a. Entertainment becoming an addiction. To watch a movie or listen to a song has become no job. One doesn’t have to plan, buy a ticket and reach the cinema at a specific time; instead, he just has to open the application available on his smartphone and watch content as per his instinct i.e YouTube.

b. Youth Exposed to Violence. Children are more interested in cartoons that portray punching, pinching, slapping, etc. Youth are more exposed to violent games, murder, and assault scenes.

c. Real Life seems Dump. Excessive use of this entertainment application (gaming, social, and video) has created a fictional and fantasy world in the audience's mind. The same has exaggerated the audience’s desires and goals that are disturbing real-life relationships, norms, culture, and goals.

d. Everyone wants to be on Screen. Excessive material relating to entertainment celebrities, modeling, random glamour videos, and pictures have compelled youth to adopt the style and fashion by trying to copy those using the latest apps like TikTok and snack videos.

e. Receiving Before Time. These entertainment applications contain a dose of unnecessary news, information, and knowledge; which is undoubtedly an over rest, and teenagers are not mature enough to handle these. i.e explicit scenes of humiliation, robbery, illegal relationships, and other extreme videos and pictures.

8. Way Forward. We shall continually witness the colossal impact of entertainment on society, either positive or negative, depends upon our appetite

a. Spreading Awareness. By spreading awareness through seminars in schools and colleges about the negative impact of addiction on this application, institutes can play their role in saving society.

b. Authorities to Take Control. Material/ Content available for the audience must be passed through a strict filter of PEMRA or PTA. Moreover, the age limit shall be defined for handlers of such applications. If not adhered fine shall be imposed on a particular family.

c. Try to taste another form of Entertainment. Parents shall plan small trips and picnics regularly to some scenic places and spend maximum time together. Make their children play some physical games or join some sports clubs to positively utilize the increasing energies of their children.

d. PTA shall influence. PTA, instead of banning the application in the country shall establish a section that shall monitor the content streamed online.

e. Activities of Minors to be Monitored and Controlled. Controlled entertainment is to be provided to minors rich in social norms and culture. Screen time is to be monitored and regulated by the parents.

9. Conclusion. Entertainment which has always remained part of human society is changing its form swiftly in the past few decades and is taking control of societal behavior. It has created earning platform for the audience by converting them into active participants by showing their talents. However, as of now, the accountability mechanism of content has not maturely surfaced to set its confines. Resulting in early exposure of children and teenagers to illicit material/ content in the form of entertainment. They are finding difficulty differentiating between the natural world and the entertainment industry. Here comes the vital and collective responsibility of parents, society, and government to develop a control and monitor mechanism to filter the intake Of enjoyment for future years.
