Tips for an Eco Wardrobe And Sustainable Fashion

TIPS FOR AN ECO WARDROBE AND SUSTAINABLE FASHION

Our planet, our home, is going through natural disasters, regularly, making it difficult for survival. This crisis is caused on Earth by its inhabitants, yours truly, the fashionable human race.Yes, FAST FASHION, to be more precise, is one of the major contributors to GLOBAL WARMING.

CLIMATIC CHANGE AND FASHION INDUSTRY

A look at the statistics of the ongoing harm :

  • 92 million tonnes of waste produced per year

  • 79 trillion liters of water consumption

  • 8-10% of global CO2 emission annually

  • 20% of industrial water pollution from textile treatment and dyeing.

  • 35% of oceanic primary microplastic pollution.

SUSTAINABLE FASHION TO THE RESCUE!

Fast fashion is a trend that supplies cheap clothing which is wearable a few times, discarded quickly while grabbing the next one. To encounter this VICIOUS cycle, as my dear Earth could say, people are being thoughtful about SUSTAINABLE FASHION.

Sustainable fashion is a process which promotes clothing with the following aspects:

  • Use of eco friendly material

  • Reduction of waste and pollution as byproduct

  • Care for labor rights

  • Encouragement in making long lasting wardrobe choices

  • Discouragement of robbing Earth, unnecessarily, of its natural resources.

You could be the one following all the guidelines if you shift under the roof of Sustainable Fashion. A step towards rescuing Earth !

THIS IS HOW YOU CAN MAKE YOUR WARDROBE ECO FRIENDLY

The term eco friendly will be used for your wardrobe as well if you make conscious choices towards sustainable fashion i.e.

  • Choose products made of organic materials like linen, cotton, silk, wool, leather, being the best choices.

( A cotton T-shirt would take 5 years to break down while a polyester shirt would live in the trash for 200 years)

  • Opt for biodegradable dyes, they require less water as a resource.

  • Upcyle i.e. recycle old material and create something new and better.

(This doesn't require new resources and also takes off a margin from the waste.)

  • Buy quality second hand clothes and keep it light on your pocket as well.

  • Wash clothes with cold water and opt for spot cleaning stains. Every used cloth doesn't need warm water to be washed or take a bath for a stain as little as a spot.

  • Be kind and hand wash them, which will also save you water and electricity bills.

  • Use good laundry detergent and less of a tumble dryer.

MAKE BETTER CHOICES!

As soon as we watch a natural disaster leap on a news channel, the blame game starts, leading us nowhere. The best we could do is make wise choices for the products we use.
